  • Monday vigil at the Fed. Bldg.

  • Email lists for the overall membership and for the Board
  • Monthly Board meetings open to everyone (2nd Tue., 7 p.m. at the Binghamton Unitarian Universalist Church)
  • Public meetings for education (held often at 8:15 p.m. after the Board meeting)
  • Monitoring the newspaper
  • Listing activities with Indymedia
  • Relating to BU peace groups

  

ON-GOING ISSUES

(Note: many of these are dealt with through petitions (internet or otherwise)and/or phone calls to Congress, with alerts sent out throughPeacenet, etc.)

  • Iraq war
  • Possible war against Iran
  • Israel-Palestine
  • Nuclear weapons
  • Supporting troops who resist deployment
  • closing the “School of the Americas

  

Some specific activities or program srelated to these issues:

  • Huge local public rally on March 19th to mark the beginning of the 5th year of the Iraq War
  • Promoting Mayors for Peace in Binghamton
  • Supporting the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition (BRSC)
  • Promoting the local School of the Americas
  • Supporting a local media-satisfaction survey to impact FCC licensing
  • Supporting the repeal of the federal Military Commissions Act of 2006, with its approval of torture
  • Support for a DVD on Jimmy Massey
  • Promoting the Citizen-Action program calling for “Clean Money – Clean Elections” in New York, with one letter from the Board  sent to Donna Lupardo, and letters from the whole membership encouraged in the next few weeks.
  • May Annual Meeting, with Dr. Don Quataert speaking on Iran, May 8, 7 p.m., at the UU Church
  • Sponsoring the Annual Hiroshima Day/Nagasaki Day, August 9.
  • Visits with our two Congressmen and Senators
  • Also during the year tabling is held at local events such as the JulyFest in downtown Binghamton and near the Roberson Museum and Science Center Festival the weekend after Labor Day.
